Today’s Excursion Was by Bicycle
Wanted to fish today. Weather was bad, couldn’t do it. Got tired of being in the house. Today’s Excursion Was by Bicycle.
The formerly dirt end of Brumley Road has been paved, right up to the wildlife management area. It was an easy peddle, with the wind at my back. Several big trucks and a grader passed me on the way. Once on the management area I passed them back.
The irises are blooming. They are stunning. The AW-100 can’t do them justice. I’ll have to return with the tripod and a real camera.
There are lots of a yellow composite flower that I am making a guess is Senecio smallii, Small’s ragwort. If anyone out there can identify this flower there’s a fishing book by John Kumiski in it for you. Only the first correct, documented ID gets a book, thanks!
I went to the Econ. Eureka, I may have found a new place to fish.
On the way back there was a herd of cows coming at me, with a funnel point on the road where a cowboy sat. I asked him if I should wait for the cows to pass. He said, “Hell, just run right through ’em.” So I tried.
Couldn’t do it. One hundred cows saw me coming at them on the bike and they all turn and ran. I started a stampede! I chased them all the way to the gate, which was way more fun than it should have been. I certainly wasn’t sick of it when the gate showed up. Cows are stupid, really stupid.
The cowboy’s truck had a bumper sticker on it.
Peddling back was tougher, going against the wind. There was also the matter of that hill. It’s more of a molehill. It was a good ride.

[…] There was no wind, no lightning, and not a drop of rain fell. I went for a bike ride after working on the book a while. Then I posted a blog about the bike ride http://www.spottedtail.com/blog/todays-excursion-bicycle/ […]
