I only got out one day this week. Last week I wrote, “Looking at the weather forecast for this week was not very encouraging. We’ll see what reality brings.” Reality brought a lot of crappy weather.
Monday was perhaps the nicest day of the week. I had a vehicle to unpack and all my show stuff to put away, along with some other errands. I took my sister’s dog for a walk along the very high Econlockhatchee. I did not see any fish.
Tuesday morning I met Pat and Sandy Sullivan for a morning half-day on Mosquito Lagoon. It was sunny but windy, and the wind kept getting worse. We found some fish (and I am getting very tired of writing this line) but we could not get them to bite. We had one bite on a Deadly Combo. We lost the fish. So another visit from the skunk was tallied.
It started raining Tuesday afternoon, which continued into Wednesday morning. When the rain stopped we had three straight days of 20 mph plus winds, combined with temperatures that dipped below freezing. I lost my Friday trip because of the weather.
But Friday night Susan, Cheryl, and I drove to the Plaza Live in Orlando and watched Al DiMeola and his band play two fantastic sets.
I had seen Mr. DiMeola play once before. It was 1976 or ’77, in Boston’s Music Hall. He was playing with Return to Forever. Captain Senor Mouse! He played it last night. One of the reasons he’s been so successful for so long is because of his masterful approach to his music.
Much of the time DiMeola is not exactly easy listening. No one will mistake him for Barry Manilow. Frequent breaks in the rythym, along with changes in tempo and in time signatures, make listening to his music an intellectual challenge. But his virtuosity on both the electric and acoustic guitars make any effort expended more than worth it.
His sidemen were awesome, too. The keyboard player had a piano, an organ, a synthesiser, and vibes, and exceptionally good musical taste. The percussionist was fantastic.
Needless to say we all enjoyed the performance tremendously and were sorry to see it end. All good things do, though…
And that is this week’s Mosquito Lagoon fishing report from Spotted Tail.
Life is great and I love my work!
Life is short- Go Fishing!
