Kayak Fishing Orlando
Kayak fishing in the lagoons allows the angler to silently sneak up on feeding fish and present the fly, lure, or bait from so close you can often see the scales on the fish's back. It's some exhilarating fishing!
When practiced properly kayak fishing is deadly. I catch more redfish from the kayak than from the skiff. There is a learning curve, however. First time kayak fishermen are often frustrated because they haven't pieced the puzzle together. You can shorten the learning curve by reading this article. I can help you some while we're on the water. There is no substitute for experience, though.
I have two Ocean Kayaks, an 11 foot Drifter and a 13 foot Prowler. I use them in the no motor zone and drag them into all kinds of other nooks and crannies. We carry all required USCG safety gear.
These boats are sit on top kayaks. You will be wet as soon as you sit on one. During the colder months you must wear waders. If you're near my size (5'10", 170 pounds) I can supply you. If you're taller than six feet or shorter than 5'8" you will need to bring your own.
During the summer flats booties are the most appropriate footwear. Nothing else works very well.
We often abandon ship and wade. Sometimes we have to drag the boats to get into fishing spots. The bottom is often soft, muddy. Expect an adventure. Expect to need a shower when you get home.
My guide license does not cover kayak fishermen. You will need a Florida saltwater fishing license in your possession if you kayak fish.
Other Equipment
There is always a phone and first aid kit on every trip.
I supply all fishing tackle (either fly or spin), flies, lures, leaders, bait, permits, etc. If you prefer a revolving spool reel you'll have to bring that yourself. I do not bring my finest equipment kayak fishing. If you bring your own you shouldn't, either.Your gear will get very wet.
I supply all paddles, PFDs, etc. on paddle trips.
The angler is responsible for his own foul weather gear, and personal refreshments. Please bring plenty of water!
