Fishing Florida by Paddle

From Pensacola to Jacksonville to the Everglades, fishing by paddle craft in the Sunshine State offers seemingly endless journeys. Whether in the cypress dugouts of the Calusa, Dimock’s wood-and-canvas tarpon fishing canoe or modern fiberglass and plastic, humans have been paddle fishing in Florida for thousands of years. Sprinkling colorful history throughout, author John Kumiski highlights the state’s best paddle fishing destinations, both freshwater and saltwater, including the bass of Farm 13, the redfish and trout along the Big Bend Paddling Trail and the snook and tarpon of the Everglades. Learn the locales and what to do when you get there, including launch points, shuttles, rentals, tackle, techniques and more.

The Indian River Lagoon Chronicles

On December 1, 2013, five paddlers launched their vessels at JB’s Fish Camp in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Their destination? Jupiter, Florida, 160 miles distant. During their nineteen day voyage they meet birds, snails, manatees, and mangroves, dolphins, scientists, restauranteurs, and seagrasses, mosquitoes, other paddlers, the ghost of Henry Flagler, and much more. Into their passage is woven the history of the people who lived along the lagoon’s banks- Indians, soldiers, settlers, agriculturalists, dredgers, fishermen, treasure hunters, entrepreneurs, and many others. Join their journey between the covers of this book!

13 Summers in Alaska

Great stories come out of the Great Land! This collection of Alaska stories is based on John Kumiski’s thirteen summers working in Alaska, guiding fishermen, hikers, bear- and whale-watchers, and glacier enthusiasts.

The stories in this book are recollections of extraordinary things that happened while we were out adventuring – some good, some not so good. You’ll find funny stories, educational stories, and there might be a couple raw ones. You’ll find a poignant one here and there.

Curl up next to the wood stove, and let this collection of great stories from Alaska fill you with warm feelings!

Living the Van Life

In May 2019, I was diagnosed with an incurable lung disease called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Didn’t like hearing this, but didn’t expect to live forever, either.

My response was to buy a van. I converted it into a camper. My wife and I then took a five-month trip around the USA, putting almost 16,000 miles on the vehicle.

We saw the most amazing things! We met the most incredible people! It was the best thing we could have done.

This book is both instructional – convert your van into a camper – and inspirational – get out and live life while you have the opportunity! None of us know how much time we have left. It’s finite. Enjoy every day!

I wanted to see, to experience, the USA like I never had before. My intent was to make the most of whatever time I had left.

Read this book, and join us on this fantastic journey!
