Holiday Break Report

Holiday Break Report

Thank you for reading this Holiday Break Report. Since this reporter dislikes fishing in crowds, he does not fish much during the holiday break. He did, however, visit the wetlands park and took a walk along the Florida Trail looking successfully for pitcher plants.

First, the fishing-

Tuesday

mostly sunny with an east wind, found me kayaking on the Banana River Lagoon, with visions of sugar plums black drum dancing in my head. Hardly saw any. Had shots at two, both of whom thanked me, but no thanks. Did get three reds on fly, and one on a DOA Shrimp. Did not photograph them. Even with the sun, they were hard to see. The water really is gross green.

Wednesday

afternoon found me at the wetlands park, camera in hand, or around my neck, as the case may have been. Spoonbills now showing up! Plenty of alligators too, lying right up next to the path.

An anhinga, preening.

A lady photographing. The vultures? The alligators?

Thursday

we celebrated Christmas at home, with my sister visiting. We had what would have been a lovely vegetarian dinner, except for a slab of Alaskan sockeye salmon fillet. Yum-mee!

Friday

was basically clean-up from Thursday. Probably the same at a lot of houses!

Saturday

I did some cooking, changed the oil in the chariot, and other similar maintenance-type activities.

And Sunday

I took that Florida Trail walk, and watched some NFL football.

Gopher tortoise hole. Always wanted to stick my arm down one to see what I’d come up with. Never will.

Mud bridges along the trail.

This and the next two are pitcher plants, a type of Sarracenia.

Next week’s report will probably read like this one, kind of lame, but I hate fishing in crowds. I expect the crowds to be dissipated on January 5.

Fireworks under a full moon.

I hope everyone has a safe and fun New Year’s Eve, and a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year!

That’s the Holiday Break Report. Thanks for reading!

And once again- Happy Holidays!

Every day is a blessing. Don’t waste it- Go fishing! Go paddling! Go walking! Stay active!
