One Mosquito Lagoon Day Report
Thank you for reading this one Mosquito Lagoon day report. I did not fish enough this week, which seems to be a recurring theme lately. We had squirrels get into a part of our house. That tied me up Monday and Tuesday. Had a photo club field trip Wednesday, to Lucas Nursery. I played with a new (for me) macro lens-

Got ready for the yard sale on Friday. But I went kayak fishing on…
…Thursday!
Got to the put-in about 0830. Some jerk left a wrecked boat there for everyone to enjoy- how considerate!

Started by cruising the shoreline, looking for cruisers or tailers. Before too long I spotted one. I had the wrong fly on, a slider with large bead-chain eyes. There was a lot of dead grass, the fly caught some of it, and the fish did not like it. Shot blown. I needed an unweighted fly, and that may not have fared any better. It was the only chance like that I would get.
Hit all my blind-casting spots with both fly and spin. Got one trout on a plastic shad, a nice enough fish, pushing three pounds. It would turn out to be the only bite I’d get (except for puffers). The water is high and pretty green. Visibility ranges between poor and fair. I ran over a couple redfish, and had poor shots with spin at a couple more. Fish were scarce- I saw more manatees than fish.
It was a beautiful day, although after mid-day an east wind came up, strong enough to create whitecaps that splashed over the bow of my little vessel. It’s also yacht season, and huge vessels kept travelling the channel, throwing giant wakes I would have to deal with.
I’m glad I went, but I should have gone to the east side of the Indian River Lagoon. Hindsight = 20/20.
Saturday
I had a yard sale. Sold some lures, and a few fishing rods. Was surprised there was no interest in the Top Spot fishing maps. I used to sell the daylights out of Top Spots, and these are a heck of a lot less expensive than the full-price ones.
One of my neighbors who stopped by told me the community yard sale is scheduled for May 2. Wish I’d known that ten days ago! Maybe I’ll join that and sell those maps there…
That’s the one Mosquito Lagoon day report. Thanks for reading!
Every day is a blessing. Don’t waste it- Go fishing! Go paddling! Go walking! Stay active!
