Another Report with the Bang-O-Craft

Thank you for reading another report with the Bang-O-Craft. It got used twice this week! It’s like a new record. Unfortunately, fishing was less than stellar.

Subscriber Chip Wilkins and I have been corresponding a bit about the condition of the St. Johns River. He sent me this- “Have a friend that informed me of a group called Mighty River Recovery regarding the abuse / destruction of the St. Johns. I joined. Check it out.”

I did check it out, and if you’re a fisherman in Florida, you should too. https://www.mightyriverrecovery.org

Thursday, Rick Elkins joined me for a Mosquito Lagoon trip. We tossed soft plastics for about four hours, getting a redfish, a mangrove snapper, and five or six seatrout between us. Although the water was high and green, it was a lovely day, weather-wise.

The fly was a 4-inch DOA jerk bait. Photo courtesy Rick Elkins.

Friday, Jorge Hidalgo joined me for a Mosquito Lagoon trip. We tossed soft plastics for about five hours, and got four trout and a puffer between us. We covered a lot more “ground”, and saw a few tailing redfish. I thought I’d get a bite from one. He sniffed at my little jerkbait and said, “No thanks!” The water and weather were similar to Thursday, but we were out a little longer. All that riding around…

I’m curious as to where the snook are. It’s May, and I’ve yet to see one in any of their usual haunts. I was speculating that perhaps the cold weather during the winter killed most of them, but again, that’s mere speculation.

That’s another report with the Bang-O-Craft. Thanks for reading!

Every day is a blessing. Don’t waste it- Go fishing! Go paddling! Go walking! Stay active!
